WSOC: Lady Mustangs remain undefeated in conference after 6-0 victory at Paul Quinn

DALLAS, TX---The Lady Mustang Soccer program took to the road Thursday for their first conference match of the season away from Bob Moran Field. USW had no issues away from home as they extended their perfect conference record with a 6-0 victory over Paul Quinn College. The victory puts the Lady Mustangs at the top of the conference standings with a 5-0-1 record in conference and a 8-4-1 record overall.

"Today's game gave us tremendous confidence leading into our game against Texarkana on Saturday" said Head Coach D'Angelo Garcia. "I was overall proud of the effort especially in the opening minutes of the game. We created many chances, giving us some confidence on being creative going forward. Now that we are leading the conference table and the only team still unbeaten, we are targeted. We have to continue to remain humble because we still have work to do. These next three games are huge tests for us, and we have to continue to strive on playing our game."

The Lady Mustangs got the scoring going early as sophomore Kim Nevarez scored 2 goals in the first 20 minutes of the game. The El Paso native would go on to secure a hat trick later in the 67th minute off an assist from Priscilla Garcia. Garcia, back in action after sitting out the previous two matches, had another fantastic game by scoring 2 goal and dishing out 2 assists to Nevarez. Senior midfielder Naomi Morales netted herself a goal in the 25th minute off a pass from fellow midfielder Lauren Zarate

Although the scoring for the Mustangs has been clutch the last 4 matches,  one of the unsung heroes on this team is freshman goalkeeper Andrea Martinez. Last week Martinez won the RRAC Defensive Player of the Week as she shutout both Houston-Victoria and OLLU at home. Currently the freshman keeper has not allowed a goal in 308 consecutive minutes dating back to the match against Huston-Tillotson back on October 5th at home where she allowed a goal in the 78th minute. Throughout conference play, Martinez has only allowed 2 goals in 6 matches.

The Lady Mustangs continue their road trip on Saturday as they travel to Texarkana, TX to take on Texas A&M Texarkana (9-5-1/3-3-0) at 1:00 PM CST.
