WVB: Lady Mustangs take down rival OLLU in 5-set match for the ages

San Antonio, TX---September 22nd, 2016. That is the date the last time the Lady Mustangs defeated the OLLU Saints in volleyball. USW was 1-15 against OLLU since 2011, but Thursday night that changed. The Lady Mustangs took down the conference rival in a 5-set match that had a little bit of everything.

Set 1 did not look very promising for the Lady Mustangs as they lost 25-11. But the ladies answered back with a dominate set of their own winning the 2nd set 25-17. Tied at 1 set each, the Lady Mustangs rallied together and won two of the final three sets to take home a road conference victory. The victory brings the Lady Mustangs conference record to 4-4 putting them in 4th place with a spot in the tournament as of now.

"What an amazingly awesome fun match.  Great Volleyball on both sides of the court! It's always a proud coach moment when your vision comes to life...and it did tonight! Great team effort, execution of the game plan, teamwork and WIN" said Head Coach Katrina English after stunning OLLU on the road.

The Lady Mustangs used a balanced attack as three ladies had 8 kills on the evening: Martinique Larvingo, Alexia Esparza and Samantha Dreibelbis. Esparza also tallied 16 digs, 2 blocks and 1 ace. Larvingo added on 3 digs and 3 blocks for her evening. Dreibelbis added two aces of her own as well as 12 digs.

Dylann Bylund once again led the team in assists with 28 on the evening. The junior from Colorado Springs added 4 kills and 7 digs as well.

The Lady Mustangs continue their road trip as they travel to Paul Quinn College on Saturday for a match that starts at 1:00 PM CST.
