GOODWELL, OK---The Lady Mustangs traveled to Oklahoma Panhandle State to compete in the 2019 Aggie Classic featuring OPSU, USAO and Northern NM. The Lady Mustangs took on USAO on Friday night and were defeated 102-57. The Lady Drovers are currently receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25 polls.
"We just didn't match their intensity. We had uncharacteristic turnovers and we played a tad timid on offense. USAO's length was definitely a problem for us. We will bounce back and learn from this and get ready for OPSU on Saturday night." said Head Coach
Devonte Brewer.
Despite the lopsided scoreboard, there were several positives to takeaway from this game. The Lady Mustangs shot over 43% as a team in the 2nd and 3rd quarters, but were unable to make up for a slow 1st quarter.
Elisa Gonzalez led the scoring for the Lady Mustangs as she scored 16 points on 7-9 shooting from the field. The junior also had 2 rebounds and 1 assist in the contest.
Mykal Thomas was also in double-figures as she had 14 points on 5-13 shooting and 7 rebounds.
The Lady Mustangs look to bounce back on Saturday as they take on host school OPSU at 8:00 PM CST.
The game will be streamed through the OPSU website.
