Plainview, Texas- The Mustangs traveled to Plainview, Texas to take on #3 ranked Wayland Baptist. The last time these two played the Mustangs almost pulled off the upset but fell just short. This time nothing could go the Mustangs way as they fell to Wayland 71-40.
They offense struggled early on and that set the tone for the rest of the game. The Mustangs found themselves down 32-22 at the half. The next half was all Wayland.
The Mustangs first half struggles continued into the second half and Wayland took advantage of it as they opened up a double digit lead that was too much for the Mustangs to come back from. The Mustangs ended up shooting just a mere 25% from the field for the game.
Head Coach, Cory Hitchcock, had this to say after the loss, ?”Tough loss for us tonight to #3 Wayland Baptist 71-40. They outworked us in all phases of the game. It wasn’t our night offensively (shot 25% from the field) but that’s no excuse for why we didn’t play with energy & grit. We will learn and grow from this. Time for us to regroup and bounce back.? I know what these guys are capable of. We just have to work on being more consistent and showing up ready to go daily. We can’t be a roller coaster team if we want to compete in our conference.”
The Mustangs travel to Lubbock, Texas on Friday to take on Lubbock Christian University. Tip off is scheduled for 4 PM Mountain Time.
