WBB: Lady Mustangs unable to keep up with high-powered OLLU offense

HOBBS, NM---Coming off a conference-opening loss to Huston-Tillotson on Thursday, the Lady Mustangs were looking to bounce back on Saturday afternoon. The only problem was their opponent standing in their way. The Our Lady of the Lake Saints defeated USW 117-63. OLLU was coming off a 2019 season that saw them making it all the way to the Final Four for the NAIA Tournament.

"We played hard today. We showed that we can play with them. We are still looking to put a full game together. We will continue to grow and learn. Today we competed against our conference champion. We competed hard! That's what I ask for!" said Head Coach Devonte Brewer

Despite being down early in the first the Lady Mustangs saw themselves down 9 points entering the 2nd quarter. Then the offense went cold with only 5 points being scored. USW was unable to get the offense going in the 2nd quarter as they were outscored by 22 in the final two quarters.

Junior Harlei Haceesa led USW in scoring with 14 points on 6-11 shooting. Haceesa also grabbed 6 rebounds. Isabel Rodriguez led the team in the rebounds with 12 to go along with 12 points and 4 assists.

The Lady Mustangs welcome the Paul Quinn Tigers to 'The Dox' next Saturday with tip-off scheduled for 2:00 PM MST. The game will be streamed through our Mustang TV.
