The Lady Mustangs had their first road trip of the year this past weekend as they traveled all the way to Alexandria, Louisiana to take LSUA in a 3-game conference series. The Lady Mustangs offensive struggles continued as hey were only able to put up 2 runs in the series.
GAME 1 (LSUA 8 - USW 2)
The Lady Mustangs offense showed a little more life in this game than it has previously, but it wasn't enough to hold off the LSUA-Generals explosive offense. The Generals exploded for four doubles which would be the difference in the game as the Lady Mustangs couldn't capitalize with runners in scoring position. The Generals started off the scoring with 3 runs in the bottom half of the second and the Lady Mustangs could not respond. The lone Lady Mustang runs came in the 6th inning. With two-outs, the Lady Mustangs strung together three straight singles by
Sarena Maynez,
Madylin Matthys, and
Monika Madrid before
Chelsea Carroll singled to left-center scoring Maynez and Matthys.
Sarena Maynez shined at the plate as she went 2-4 with 1 run scored.
GAME 2 (LSUA 9 - USW 0) (5 innings)
In Game two of the series the Lady Mustangs offense wasn't as existent as the first game as they only produced 2 hits.
Kenzie Savell and
Gabby Heckmann were the lone Lady Mustangs with hits with Heckmann scorching a double to the left field wall.
Errors proved to be costly as well in this game as only 4 of the 9 runs scored were earned off starting pitcher
Larissa Madrid. Madrid held the Generals scoreless until the 3rd inning when they pushed 3 runs across the plate. The Generals would go on to score 6 more runs in the 4th and the game would end by run rule in 5 innings.
GAME 3 (LSUA 9 - USW 0) (5 innings)
The struggles from the first two games of the series carried into the series finale as the Lady Mustangs looked out of sinc. The Lady Mustangs were only able to produce 1 hit, a double by
Chelsea Carroll and had quite a few miscues on the defensive side. Dropped fly balls and miscommunications allowed the Generals to garner 12 hits and plate 9 runs.
