RRAC Athletes of the Week were named for the dates of April 1-7 including honorees Danielle David (women's track - Wiley), Kyana Rivera (women's field - Southwest), Jude Atwell (men's track - Wiley), and Melvin Flax (men's field - Southwest). This is the sixth set of weekly track & field awards for 2019.
Rivera established a new school record in the Heptathlon with 3,256 points. The senior from Monterey, Calif., finished sixth in a field of 10 competitors (mostly from NCAA) at the West Texas A&M University Classic & Multi in Canyon, Texas. Rivera also placed fourth in the Javelin with a throw of 30.27 meters.
Flax was the runner-up in the Shot Put with a launch of 16.87 meters at West Texas A&M. The Oakland native also placed 10th in the Discus and 11th in the Hammer Throw over the weekend. Flax is currently ranked fifth in the NAIA in Shot Put and 16th in Discus.
Additional nominees included Alexandria Adams (women's track - Southwest), Shaiann Charles (women's field - Wiley), Samuel Mosley (men's track - Southwest), Devlon Noble (men's field - Wiley).
