HOBBS, NM----The Men's Soccer program hosted Southwestern Christian University in their final non-conference matchup of the season. The Mustangs were outlasted by the Eagles 2-1 in a hard fought game. The loss pushes the Mustangs record to 1-5 as they enter conference. The Mustangs are no stranger to this scenario as they entered conference play last season with the exact same record, and went on to go 7-2-1 in conference play which secured them a spot in the RRAC Tournament.
The Mustangs got the scoring going today with a goal from
Elton Tettey in the 29th minute which gave the Mustangs the 1-0 lead early. But 11 minutes later the Eagles would answer with a goal of their owned scored by Juan Anselmi. The Mustangs went into the half with the shot advantage 8-6, but the offense went quiet in the 2nd half as they were unable to put something in the back of the net.
In the 68th minute, the Eagles would break the 1-1 tie as Shahali Fataliyev gave Southwestern Christian the lead and never gave it back. The Mustangs managed only 3 shots in the 2nd half and were unable to tie the game back up despite a great effort from the 11.
" As we continue to compete, we will start to see what will be coming our way. The boys have been playing hard and it's one of those things where you keep going and going, but you don't get the results you are looking for. Now that non-conference play is over, we are looking forward to RRAC play and coming together as a team and finish the year strong" said Head Coach
Edgar Negrete following Tuesday afternoon's loss.
