WVB: Mustangs sweep Jarvis on the road

HAWKINS, TX---Friday night the Lady Mustangs traveled to Hawkins, TX to take on the Jarvis Christian Bulldogs for their 3rd Red River Conference match of the year. The Mustangs came into the match with a 3-11 record and a 1-1 record in RRAC play. The ladies came out strong and swept the Bulldogs 3-0 in dominant fashion.

The victory pushes their record to 2-1 in conference which puts them in 3rd place early on in the conference season. USW did not allow Jarvis to reach the 20 point mark in any of the 3 sets, winning 25-19, 25-17 & 25-14 to complete the sweep.

"It was a big win tonight! It was a total team win. The ladies are breaking through past barriers to reach their maximum potential. Proud coach moment for me tonight" said Head Coach Katrina English of the win Friday night on the road.

The Lady Mustangs dominated the match from start to finish which included an incredible night of serving as they racked up 24 aces. Freshman Sarah Marquez continued her impressive 2019 campaign as she led the team with 8 aces on the night and had 4 digs to go along with it. Another member of the young Lady Mustang freshman core, Alexia Esparza, once again led the team in kills with 9 total kills and only 1 attacking error. She also had 3 digs and 2 block assists. Transfers Dylann Bylund and Alexis Mancera brought their experience to the court as Bylund led the team with 20 assists and Mancera was able to dig out 15 attacks to go along with 6 kills of her own and 2 blocks.
