WSOC: Lady Mustangs thump Texas College to open RRAC schedule

HOBBS, NM--- Head Coach D'Angelo Garcia wanted a "No Mercy" attitude out of his girls today and he got that and then some. The Lady Mustangs defeated Texas College 15-1 to give them their first Red River Conference victory of the season.

"It was an excellent performance today. We trained all week for certain things and we had to continue to be patient all day. It was a good opportunity for us to work on some things. I was very pleased with the girls performances today, especially with finishing chances." said Head Coach D'Angelo Garcia on how proud he was of his girls today.

The Lady Mustangs had three players with hat tricks on the afternoon with Priscilla Garcia leading the charge with 4 goals and 4 assists. Hobbs native Jennifer Schroeder had 4 goals of her own on 8 total shots. Senior Karla Parra scored 3 goals on the afternoon on only 4 shots. In total the Lady Mustangs took 53 shots with 36 of those being shots on goal.

The defense had a very easy day as the Steers were only able to penetrate the midfield line a handful of times, generating 1 goal on their only shot of the game in the 2nd half.

The Lady Mustangs also got goals from Senior Naomi Morales who had 8 total shots, Adrianna Orwig who scored off the bench, and sophomore Kimberly Nevarez who added 2 goals of her own off the bench. The last time the Lady Mustangs scored 15 goals in a game was October 26th, 2017 as they defeated Jarvis Christian 15-0.

Coach Garcia is very pleased with the victory today, but knows that his team must remain humble and focused when Jarvis Christian comes to town on Saturday afternoon. "The girls mentality is extremely confident right now. Hopefully we can come out ready to go Saturday. I hope we can carry this with us on Saturday and we can start 2-0 in conference. Not every game is the same and every game is not easy. We play very well at home, so hopefully the girls come out hungry and get the same result."

The Lady Mustangs host Jarvis Christian this Saturday with a 1:00 PM scheduled kickoff.
