The University of the Southwest Women's Soccer program hosted NCAA Division 3 opponent Sul Ross State University over the weekend and ran away with a 5-1 victory to push their record to 3-3 on the season.
"After a tough, frustrating loss to Wayland Baptist last weekend, the way we played today was the team we have all seen before. We came out strong from the get go and played the game with excitement and hard work. The girls knew we had to make a statement. and I strongly believe this is why we got the result in our favor" said Head Coach
D'Angelo Garcia following Saturday's victory.
The Mustangs saw four different players score on the afternoon with senior
Karla Parra leading the way with two goals and an assist. "
Karla Parra scored two huge goals for us today as well as
Priscilla Garcia scoring" Coach Garcia had to say of his senior midfielder. Junior
Priscilla Garcia kept the pressure on the Lobos all afternoon as she had 14 totals shots with 7 of those shots being on goal. In total the Mustangs tallied 15 shots on goal on the afternoon.
USW also got two goals from key contributors off the bench as
Corina Ortiz & Adrianna Orwig both scored their first career goals for the Mustangs. "I am extremely proud of the substitutes that came in and made a difference by contributing some goals. Orwig and Ortiz came off the bench, worked hard and netted a pair of first time goals for the program.
Jennifer Schroeder made a first time start in the season and played very well" Coach Garcia had to say of his young Mustangs off the bench.
The Lady Mustangs are back in action on Saturday as they take on UTPB on the campus of USW before their conference season opens up at home on September 26th against Texas College.
