HOBBS, NM---The Lady Mustang Basketball program welcomed #23 LSU-Shreveport to Hobbs on Thursday night in another RRAC matchup. LSU-S came into the matchup with a 12-4 record overall and 6-1 in RRAC play. The Lady Mustangs down to 7 players on the evening gave the Lady Pilots everything they could for 4 quarters, but unfortunately came up just short, losing 70-63. The loss brings USW's record to 6-11 overall and 3-5 in RRAC play.
"I can't express how hard these girls fought tonight. We lost
Jasmine Rodriguez to an injury late this week, so playing with 7 girls was tough. We are asking players to play out of position for the betterment of the team. Tonight's game came down to free throws and turnovers. LSU-S made their free-throws and did what they were supposed to do. We gave everything we had tonight." said Head Coach
Devonte Brewer.
Rhianna Bortoli led the team in scoring with 19 points on 7-20 shooting. Bortoli played some tough defense and forced 2 steals and had 5 rebounds in the paint. She also dished out 5 assists tonight which was a career-high.
Harlei Haceesa scored 13 points on 5-11 shooting in 37 minutes of play.
Jazmin Rios and
Mykal Thomas both had 11 points.
The Lady Mustangs will host LSU-Alexandria on Saturday afternoon in another tough matchup. The Lady Generals are currently receiving votes in the NAIA Coaches Poll from January 15th. Coach Brewer is excited for the challenge and knows they are a great team. "LSU-A plays with 6 really good girls. LSU-A beat LSU-S by 20 last week and scored over 100 points. We are going to have our hands full and give them a fight. If we play hard, good things will always happen. " said Brewer on Saturday's matchup.
