Box Score HOBBS, NM---The University of the Southwest Men's Basketball program took down the TAMUT Eagles on Thursday night in a game that gave the fans some free basketball. USW defeated conference foe 75-65 in overtime. The victory pushes the Mustangs record to 13-10 on the season and 8-5 in conference.
"Great win for our guys" said Head Coach
Cory Hitchcock. "It was back and forth the whole night, but in the final 4 minutes we really stepped up our defense and things started clicking for us again. Once we were in overtime, the guys did a great job closing the ball game. We got stops and knocked down free throws. I'm really proud of our growth and it's great to see these guys close out tight ball games. It just shows how much they have matured this season."
Akeem Black led all players in scoring with 31 points on 9-16 shooting including 11-14 from the FT-line. The senior played in only 34 minutes.
Joshua Harris (12 points),
Derrick Hall (11 points) and
Thurbil Bile (10 points) were the other Mustangs in double figures. Bile led the team with 13 rebounds and the Mustangs had 22 assists as a team.Â
The Mustangs host their final home game and Senior Day on Saturday afternoon against the Wiley College Wildcats.Â
