SHREVEPORT, LA---The Mustang Baseball program traveled to Louisiana over the weekend to take on the #12 LSU-Shreveport Pilots in their 2nd RRAC series of the season. The Pilots were 15-4 on the season heading into the series while the Mustangs were 6-14 and 1-2 in conference play. Despite two 1-run ballgames, the Mustangs were swept by the Pilots in their 3 games.
GAME 1
LSU-S 9---USW 2
JJ Kruzel got the start on the mound for the Mustangs and did a great job of keeping the Mustangs in the game. Kruzel lasted 6 1/3 innings striking out 6 and allowing 3 earned runs (5 runs total).
Saliel Rivera and
AJ Cordova finished out the final 5 outs of the game and did not allow an earned run. The Mustang defense did not show up in Game 1 as they had 3 errors which lead to 6 unearned runs in the game.
The Mustangs only had 1 hit in the game from
Jacob Wyly and 1 RBI which also came from Wyly in the 9th.
GAME 2
LSU-S 10---USW 9
The Mustang bats come out firing on all cylinders on Saturday afternoon after getting 1-hit on Friday night. USW scored 4 in the top of the 1st thanks to an RBI single from
Jacob Wyly and a 3 RBI double from
Nicholas Palomino. But their lead would almost evaporate after the Pilots scored 3 runs of their own in the bottom of the 1st.
Trailing by 4 in the final inning of the 7-inning contest, the Mustangs rallied for 4 runs to tie the ball game and bring it to extras. But the Pilots would take advantage of another Mustang error in the bottom of the 9th to score the winning run. The Mustangs had 4 errors in the game.
Kevin Whitaker got the start on the bump and threw 5 1/3 inning allowing 5 earned runs.
Nicholas Palomino was 3-5 while driving in 5 runs and scoring 1.
Ismael Brenes and
Jacob Wyly both had 2 hits in the game.
GAME 3
LSU-S 5---USW 4
Despite scoring in 4 of the 7 innings of the game, the Mustangs fell in the final game of the series 5-4.
CJ Aviles led the offensive charge going 2-3 with a double and 1 RBI.
Orlan Warren worked 3 1/3 innings of relief allowing 3 hits and 0 earned runs ( 2 unearned runs) to earn the loss.
