HAWKINS, TX---The Mustang basketball program played in their fourth game of the season on Thursday night as they took on Red River Athletic Conference opponent Jarvis Christian. Both teams were looking for their first victory of the season. Jarvis took down the Mustangs by the score of 84-48.
"Another tough loss due to lack of effort and fundamentals. We have to get back to the basics and start from scratch. I obviously need to do a better job holding them accountable and teaching them. We have a long ways to go if we want to start winning. We need to trust each other, play together and focus on the little things if we want to give ourselves a chance to compete. All we can do is get back in the lab and work on getting better. Jarvis played like a team who wanted to get in the win column and we didn't." said Head Coach
Cory Hitchcock following Thursday night's loss to Jarvis.
Tae Brown led the Mustangs in scoring with 13 points on 5-11 shooting. Brown also grabbed 8 rebounds in his 32 minutes of action. Sophomore forward
Alex Pena contributed 7 points off the bench on 3-5 shooting as well as 4 rebounds and 1 assist. True freshman
Colton McGinnis scored a career-high 9 points in 7 minutes of action. The Arizona native was a perfect 4-4 from the floor including a three-pointer.
The Mustangs are back in action against the same Jarvis team on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 PM MST. The game will be streamed live through the Jarvis Youtube channel. Links for both video and stats will be posted on gameday.
