ALEXANDRIA, LA---Coming off a two-game sweep of Jarvis Christian, the Lady Mustangs traveled to Alexandria, LA for a Red River Athletic Conference matchup. Despite a 23-rebound game from senior
Isabel Rodriguez, LSU-Alexandria defeated USW 88-73. The loss brings their record 2-4 on the season.
"Today was a rough day. We just didn't bring it" said Head Coach
Devonte Brewer. "We had little energy, we were sloppy with the basketball, just didn't deserve to win that game. We want to be great, so we expect to bring that energy every moment not just when things are going our way."
Despite being down by only one at halftime, the Lady Mustangs offense fell flat in the final two quarters, scoring only 29 points in the final 20 minutes. USW was lead once again by
Isabel Rodriguez who recorded another double-double with 12 points and 23 rebounds. The 23 rebounds ties the school record set by Dominique Haywood in 2011 against Jarvis Christian. "Isa always plays hard and has a nose for the ball. That's what makes her so good at rebounding. I'm happy for her, but wish it would have been enough for a win. We need to help her out moving forward" said Brewer.
LSU-Alexandria was lead by guard Kelsey Thaxton who had 28 points on 10-23 shooting, including 5 three-pointers. "Thaxton is one of, if not the best scorer in our conference. We need to do a better job of containing her and making everything difficult for her." said Brewer on the Lady General leading scorer.
The Lady Mustangs are back in action Wednesday evening as they play #21 Talladega College in Shreveport, LA hosted by LSU-Shreveport.
