The University of the Southwest Volleyball Team had a conference doubleheader at home on Saturday. The Mustangs took on Paul Quinn College in match one and Wiley College in match two. Paul Quinn came into the match with a record of (2-16) overall and (0-5) in conference play. Wiley came into the match with a record of (4-5) overall and (2-3) in conference play. The Mustangs were able to secure a victory in the first match against Paul Quinn by the score of 3-1. They dropped a tight set one 25-23 but were able to win the next three sets by the score of 25-15 in all three. They took a short break and then were back on the court against Wiley and were able to put together a 3-2 victory. They took set one 25-16, dropped two tight ones in set two and three 26-24, but were able to rebound and take set four and five 25-17 and 15-8.

Cass Smith said after the two matches "I'm proud of the work they put in to get us here. All credit and praise to the girls who come in day in and day out and give their all. Again, we are not satisfied. We're excited to push onward and really explore what we are capable of."
Some of the key performers in the doubleheader were
Alissa Mancera,

Valeria Trevino. Mancera, a freshman from El Paso, recorded 17 assists, 5 service aces, and 2 digs against Paul Quinn and 27 assists, 4 service aces, and 6 digs against Wiley. Senior
Autumn Lopez recorded 15 digs and 5 service aces against Paul Quinn and 24 digs and 3 service aces against Wiley. Junior
Valeria Trevino recorded 6 kills,1 error on 7 attempts, with a .714 hitting percentage against Paul Quinn and 12 kills, 3 errors on 22 attempts, with a .409 hitting percentage against Wiley.
The Mustangs are now (7-12) overall, but are an impressive (5-1) in RRAC play. They currently sit in second place in the West division of the Red River Athletic Conference. They will be back in action against Oklahoma Panhandle State in Goodwell, OK tomorrow at 5:00 PM MST in a non-conference matchup.
