The University of the Southwest Men's and Women's Cross-Country teams ran in split events this weekend. The Men's team took on an 8k at the Bill Libby Invitational hosted by McMurry University in Abilene, TX. There were representatives from 13 different schools at the meet and 91 participants who finished the race. The Women competed in a 5k at the NMJC Invitational II across the street here in Hobbs. There were representatives from 4 different schools at the meet and 21 participants that completed the race.
Men: The Mustangs finished 9
th in the team results in the crowded field of runners. They were again paced by Freshman
Guadalupe Garcia who finished 20
th with a time of 28:09 and an average mile of 5:39! Freshman
Armando Hernandez finished not too far behind his teammate with a finish of 24
th, a time of 28:22, and an average mile of 5:42. Freshman
Peter Lucio finished with a time of 30:52, Freshman Emmanuel Esparza had a time of 32:27, and Freshman
Cael Denetdeel finished with a time of 41:15.
Women: The Women finished 4
th in the team results of competitive juco teams. Freshman
Samantha Jasso paced the Mustangs women with a 9
th place finish and a time of 21:14 and average mile of 6:50. Freshman
Genevieve Jasso finished with a time of 25:15, Senior
Lorena Gonzalez 26:19, and Freshman
Lizette Hernandez at 26:36.

Tony Skiles said about the performance for the two teams ""We are hitting our stride at the right time before conference." This meet concludes the regular season for both teams and they will turn their focus to the RRAC Championships hosted by Our Lady of the Lake on November 5
th.
