MSOC: Alvarado's 2 goals pushes Mustangs past OLLU

SAN ANTONIO, TX---The Mustangs earned their first victory of 2021 on Saturday afternoon as they defeated conference rival Our Lady of the Lake 3-2. Matthew Alvarado netted two goals for the Mustangs and Luis Calvillo scored the game-winning goal in the 58th minute.

"What an exciting feeling today. The boys managed to stay composed and kept fighting till the very end. I'm extremely proud of the guys for not giving up whenever we allowed goals. They showed heart today and battled until the last minute" said Head Coach Edgar Negrete

OLLU struck first with a goal in the 25th minute from Mitchell Medrano. But 10 minutes later Matthew Alvarado would tie up the game at 1-1. OLLU scored an early 2nd half goal in the 50th minute to regain the lead. Coach Negrete and company then made a few adjustments that helped open up some things for the offense. The adjustments worked when USW scored a pair of goals within 30 seconds of each other from Matthew Alvarado again and Luis Calvillo

"It was our first game together with everyone in the lineup and we had high hopes of a great match. We adjusted our midfield a couple of minutes into the 2nd half and that helped up stop the attack that kept getting through to our defense. After the midfield adjustment, everything started to head our way. The defense was led by Dan Moreno who was able to help organize and stay calm in the 2nd half. Having him clean up all the lose balls and last tackles was huge. Now we have to get ready for Jarvis Christian next week, but I am very proud of the boys and they truly deserved this victory" said Negrete.
