HAWKINS, TX---The University of the Southwest Mustang Baseball program opened up their 2021 RRAC spring schedule on Friday and Saturday against Jarvis Christian. The Mustangs and Bulldogs faced off in a 4-game series with two 7-inning and two 9-inning games. Jarvis won the first 3 games of the series by a combined 4 runs, but USW won Game 4 in dominating fashion, 13-1.
GAME 1
JCC 5---USW 4
TJ Ruiz got the start on the hill for USW in Game 1. Ruiz threw all 6 innings allowing 8 hits and striking out 5.
Tariq Levesque was 3-4 in the game with an RBI.
GAME 2
JCC 6---USW 4
The Mustang offense came out swinging in the 2nd game of the doubleheader. USW had 10 hits in the game, but ultimately the Mustang bullpen fell apart down the stretch and allowed 5 runs in the final 2 innings.
AJ Cordova thew a career high 6 2/3 innings allowing only 1 run and striking out 4.
GAME 3
JCC 4---USW 3
USW allowed a late run to Jarvis Christian in the 5th inning and were unable to mount a comeback.
Seth Olguin tossed 6 innings allowing 10 hits and 4 runs, while striking out 3.
Dair Ornelas,
Tariq Levesque and
Jeremy Dibartolomeo each had 2 hits in the game.
GAME 4
USW 13---JCC 1
USW got a phenomenal start from pitcher
Bo Sims to avoid a sweep from Jarvis. Sims dazzled all game long allowing 4 hits in a complete-game 9 inning effort. Sims struck out 8 in the game and allowed an unearned run in the 5th inning.
The Mustangs banged out 13 hits in the contest and 8 out of 9 starters had a hit in the game.
Brian Rodriguez and
Dair Ornelas each scored 3 runs and
Tariq Levesque drove home 3 runs.
