The University of the Southwest women's volleyball team traveled to Plainview, TX to take on the Wayland Baptist and University of Science and Arts (OK) in a tri-match on Saturday. USW was able to pick up a win in the first contest of the day against USAO 3-0 but dropped the next match to Wayland Baptist 3-0. The first game of the day marked the first victory since the opening match of the year for the Lady Mustangs. They look to round into form as they are set to begin conference play in 11 days.
"We looked like ourselves and played the way we're supposed to. I'm proud of the effort and finish and we can only go up from here. They played together and finally enjoyed it, was great to see." said Head Coach

Some key performers on the day were
Alexia Esparza,
Alissa Mancera,
Autumn Lopez, and
Valeria Trevino. The junior Esparza had 21 kills, 15 digs, and 4 aces on the day. The freshman Mancera had 28 assists and 11 digs in the two contests. Senior
Autumn Lopez had 20 digs, 3 assists, and 2 aces in the contests. Junior
Valeria Trevino had 11 kills 4 digs and a hitting percentage of .296 on the day.
The Lady Mustangs' next contest will be an exhibition against UTPB in Odessa on Wednesday at 6:00 PM. This will be their last contest before they open up their conference schedule against Texas College on September 24
th.
