MSOC: Mustangs Fall to LSUA

Alexandria, LA – The University of the Southwest Soccer team (3-5-4, 2-2-4 RRAC) traveled to Louisiana to take on Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) opponent Louisiana State University Alexandria (LSUA) (4-5-4, 3-2-3 RRAC). With a win, the Mustangs could leapfrog LSU Alexandria in the RRAC standings.

Coming off three straight ties, LSUA was looking to get all three points in this one. They started early when Daniel Torrenegra put one into the back of the net for the Generals. Just over ten minutes later, Torrenegra scored his second goal of the game, this time off an assist from Paul Adler. LSUA was now leading USW 2-0 less than twenty-four minutes into the match.

The General offense continued their relentless push when Keelin Foley scored from an Enrique Ruiz Diaz assist in the 39th minute. This put them up 3-0 going into the half, leaving the Mustangs searching for a new game plan to counter the LSUA push.

The first eighteen minutes of the second half did not see any scoring from either side. That is until the LSUA struck once again against a USW squad, now a man down. Torrenegra achieved his hat trick with an assist from Manuel Concetti. This would make it 4-0 for the Generals, which is all they would need for the rest of the match.

"We know what's at stake and what needs to get done to advance to the conference tournament. Unfortunately, things didn't go out way. To be fair, we didn't play badly, but we lost focus when we began arguing with LSUA players. We need to focus on playing the game and control what we can control. LSUA was able to get some chances in early, which cost us getting some momentum back to get a different outcome. We have to see how everything plays out, but we need to take care of Saturday's game if we have any chance of making the playoffs."
