Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Andrew Garcia

MBB: Mustangs Clinch Spot in RRAC Tournament

The University of the Southwest Men's Basketball finished up the regular season with a pair of games down in Texas. The Mustangs played against the Rams on Thursday and then for the final regular season game against the Saints. The Mustangs were fighting for a chance to play in the RRAC tournament needing two wins to stay alive.

Huston-Tillotson University

Southwest (11-15, 7-12 RRAC) had a disappointing result last time in Hobbs when they took on the Rams with a 69-78 loss.

The first half, being played with a different set of fire from the Mustangs, saw them take a first-half lead of 39-36 behind a 13-point half from Junior Miles Macadory.

The second half was a battle the whole way, with the Mustangs trying to build on their first-half lead. Taking a three-point lead off a turnover that led to a layup from Senior Tre Thomas would put the Mustangs up 71-68 with 2:56 left to play. The Mustangs would hold off all efforts, including a last-second three-point attempt to win the game 71-70.

Miles Macadory would pace the Mustangs with a 21-point outing. Junior Jahvonta Jones would also help out the Mustangs scoring 15 points.

Our Lady of the Lake University

Southwest (12-15, 8-12 RRAC) looking to build on their last matchup against the Saints, where they won 91-88. The Mustangs were also looking to play spoilers as it was senior night in San Antonio, and needed one more win to clinch a postseason spot.

The Mustangs would come out a tad flat compared to the Saints climbing in a hole early with a score of 44-38.

The halftime break was exactly what the Mustangs needed to get some rhythm for the game. Scratching and clawing the whole game, the Mustangs would finally take the lead back since the 12:40 mark of the first half and would dominate the last 4 minutes of the game. It was an impressive defensive showing that led to the comeback and outscored the Saints by 14 points.

Miles Macadory and Jahvonta Jones were again the main focus of the offensive charge. Jones would lead the team with 21 points, and Macadory would also score above his season average with 17 points.

The Mustangs will be back the upcoming weekend as they will travel to Alexandria, Louisiana, for the RRAC Tournament. Continue to follow USW Athletics and USW Men's Basketball on all social media for scores and updates throughout the season.
