Southwest Falls Short in Spirited Second-Half Comeback Attempt

Despite a valiant effort in the second half, Southwest couldn't overcome a significant halftime deficit, falling to LSU Shreveport 95-87 on December 7th at the Jack & Mabel Student Life Center.

Southwest entered halftime trailing by 19 points, facing a 46-27 scoreline that appeared daunting. However, the team rallied impressively in the second half, outscoring LSU Shreveport 60-49. Key contributors included Jalen McAfee Marion, who led the scoring charge with 18 points, and James Evans, who posted a double-double with 19 points and nine rebounds. Rahkiem Petterson also shone with 16 points and eight boards, giving the home crowd hope for a remarkable comeback.

Turnovers and shooting percentages, however, told the tale of the game. While Southwest managed a respectable 45.9% from the field, they struggled from beyond the arc, hitting only 30% of their three-point attempts. LSU Shreveport capitalized on their opportunities, shooting an impressive 51.5% from the floor and 47.4% from three-point range, spearheaded by Taj Anderson's game-high 36 points.

Southwest dominated the rebounding battle, hauling in 41 boards to LSU Shreveport's 25, with Evans leading the charge on the glass. Despite this edge, turnovers plagued the home team, as their 18 giveaways proved costly against a well-organized opponent.

Head coach [Coach's Name] acknowledged the effort but lamented the missed opportunities: "We showed tremendous heart in the second half, but we have to be more consistent from start to finish. The turnovers and defensive lapses in the first half put us in too deep a hole."

This loss drops Southwest to [Insert Current Record], but the team's spirited second-half performance offers a foundation to build upon as they prepare for their next matchup.
