Game Recap: Baseball | | Shaun Reed

Mustangs sweep

I thought our guys played decently well all weekend despite the elements. It's never easy playing in winds that high and you never know what can happen as anything can happen for both sides. I thought our guys started off sluggish at the plate but turned it on for the remainder of the series. Some guys really had a great offensive weekend for us and hopefully they can continue to carry that momentum forward. On a defensive note, I thought our guys played hard and communicated well all weekend. A big shout out to the outfield play as they covered a lot of ground in that wind.

Game 1
The Mustangs opened the weekend scoring 15 runs on 12 hits and winning 15-0. Brian Ledezma continues to stay hot went 4-5 with 3 RBI while fellow teammate Carson Miller help contribute going 2-3 with a pair of RBI and a walk. A.J. Cordova got the start in game 1 and pitched  6.0 strong innings giving up 0 runs and allowing only 1 hit. Jeffery Mathis got his first appearance of the 24 season and threw the 7th inning to finish the game.
Game 2
In game 2 of the series the Mustangs carried over from what they did in game 1 by plating 3 runs in the first inning. The Mustangs took the game with a score of 12-2. Carlos Jaquez-Munoz had a big game going 3-4 with 4 RBI while Santiago Garica went 2-4 with a pair of RBI. Kobe Carpio got the win in game 2 for the Mustangs going 5.0 innings giving up 3 hits and 2 runs 0 earned runs while striking out 3. Taymon Burrola and Isaac Baeza each went 1 inning to slam the door on the Tigers.

Game 3
The Mustangs continued to be successful, managing to score 16 runs on 13 hits. However, the Tigers made the game interesting in the first couple of frames. The Mustangs ended up winning 16-9. Taymon Burrola got the win after coming in relief and throwing 1.2 shutout innings with 1 strikeout. Caden Davis came in the close things out throwing 1 inning giving up 1 run with 2 strikeouts. On the offensive end Carson Miller and Carlos Jaquez-Munoz continued to stay hot. Miller went 3-3 with a walk and RBI. While Jaquez-Munoz went 3-4 with 2 home runs, 1 walk, and 6 RBI.

Game 4
The Mustangs were looking for the sweep in Game 4 and did just that. The Mustangs beat Central Christian 15-5 as the game was called in the 6th inning due to darkness. However, the Mustangs put up 7 runs in the 2nd inning to close out the series. James Webster got the start and the win going 3.0 innings surrendering only 1 hit with 1 strikeout. TJ Ruiz came in going 1.1 innings giving up 1 hit and 1 walk. The offense continued to put runs together with the help of Ayden Ramos and Isaiah Alba. Ramos went 2-4 with 4 RBI and a walk including a triple. Alba went 1-2 with 2 walks and a pair of RBI.

Moving forward we must pitch it better. When we make our pitches, they are fine. We have just walked too many for our liking and I'm positive the guys will turn the page. Again, it's not easy throwing at times with a 30-40mph wind. Overall, we know the season only gets tougher and our guys will be ready to work all week as we go on the road for the first time all year. Winning on the road wasn't something we did well last year, and we need to change some things up in order to fix that.
