Game 1  

September 20, 2024, E.W. Rand Center — In a tense, back-and-forth battle, Jarvis Christian narrowly escaped with a 3-2 win over Southwest (25-23, 13-25, 17-25, 25-19, 17-15). The match saw dramatic swings of momentum as both teams fought hard for the win. 

Southwest had a standout performance particularly from Danna Gamez, who tallied 10 kills and 10 points. Aneesa Thompson also delivered with 11 kills, but the team's overall hitting percentage (.080) held them back from securing the win. Service errors and attack inconsistencies plagued Southwest, who committed 39 errors throughout the match, undermining their strong offensive moments. 

Maya Morales led the defense with a massive 29 digs, and Starlett Hoyuela was a consistent play-maker with 25 assists and 3 service aces. The team showed flashes of brilliance but couldn't close out in the crucial moments of the final set. 

"Despite great adversity and some very questionable calls, we played together. We played like us. Tomorrow is a new endeavor. Speaking it into existence... We're winning" said Head Coach Cass Smith after the match up.  

Game 2  

September 21, 2024, E.W. Rand Center — Southwest cruised to victory over Jarvis Christian in a commanding three-set sweep (25-18, 25-21, 26-24), earning their first win of the season and improving to 1-4 overall. The team displayed remarkable resilience, bouncing back after a challenging start to the season. 

Leading the offensive charge for Southwest was Aniya Odom, who posted 7 kills on 15 attempts with a .333 hitting percentage, contributing 10.5 total points.  Meanwhile, Starlett Hoyuela commanded the floor, notching 4 service aces and adding 16 assists, guiding her team to critical points when it mattered. 

On the defensive side, Maya Morales anchored the back-court with 13 digs, and the team tallied 36 total digs to limit Jarvis Christian's attack. 

"Manifestation confirmed we were firing on all cylinders. Left no doubt. Made some minor adjustments to better our touch and pace to ultimately secure the win" were Coach Cass comments after the win this afternoon.  

These two games highlight the competitive and dynamic nature of the Southwest vs. Jarvis Christian with each match bringing its own set of challenges and excitement.
