Box Score Hobbs- The 1-0 USW Men's soccer team hosted the 2-1 Wayland Baptist Pioneers in a match this afternoon.
The scoring started early in this matchup when Wayland scored the first goal of the match in the 3rd minute, putting the Pioneers ahead 0-1. But the Mustangs were able to respond with a pair of goals of their own one in the 6th minute by Malachi Rodriguez to tie it up all at one a piece and the other by a penalty kick by Millaivy Lopez to but the mustangs up 2-0 and this score would hold up through the rest of the half.
Coming out of half, Wayland broke through the defense and tied the score up at 2-2. And the score would remain tied all the way to the 80th minute of the match when the Mustangs offense was able to get some momentum going and score the go-ahead goal off the foot of Yahir Chacon to make the score 3-2 and seal the victory for the mustangs.
When asked about the close match head coach Edrian Negrete said "the guys felt comfortable throughout the match, and it took for them to realize that it was going to come down to who wanted it more. And from this realization we were able to move the ball around which allowed us to score in the final minutes of the game."
The Mustangs look ahead to Saturday September 7th to continue their win streak when Sul Ross comes into town.
