HOBBS, N.M. -- The University of the Southwest men's soccer team endured a tough outing on Saturday afternoon, falling 7-0 to Texas A&M University-San Antonio in conference play at Bob Moran Soccer Field.
The Mustangs (2-5-3, 1-3-2) were unable to overcome a relentless offensive attack from the Jaguars (7-3-1, 4-3-0), who scored four goals in the first half and added three more in the second.Â
Goalkeeper
Stephen Chairez faced heavy pressure throughout the match, making four saves on 11 shots on goal. Offensively,
Yahir Chacon led the Mustangs with five shots and earned a penalty kick early in the second half, but his attempt was denied by TAMUSA's keeper.
Southwest registered 10 shots in total, with contributions from
Nicolas Amparan,
Juan Perez and
Jordan Acosta, but struggled to convert chances into goals. The Mustangs earned just one corner kick and were shown a yellow card late in the match.
Southwest will look to regroup and prepare for its next matchup on Thursday against Texas A&M-Texarkana, with kickoff scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at Bob Moran Soccer Field.
