HOBBS, N.M. -- Despite a stellar performance in goal by
Elena Moya, the Southwest women's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to Texas A&M-Texarkana at Bob Moran Soccer Field. The heated contest began on Thursday afternoon, but resumed Friday morning at the 20-minute mark due to lightning in the area.
Moya was a force between the posts, recording 12 saves on 15 shots on goal, keeping the Mustangs within striking distance throughout the match. However, the Eagles' relentless attack proved too much, as they outshot Southwest 24-6 and earned 11 corner kicks to the Mustangs' two.
Texas A&M-Texarkana opened the scoring in the 32nd minute with an unassisted goal from Alexia Lara. The Eagles added two more in the second half to lengthen the lead.
Southwest (1-13-1, 1-7-1) had offensive contributions from
Giselle Villa,
Joanna Estrada,
Michelle Perez and
Roxana Bustamante, each registering a shot on goal. Despite their efforts, the Lady Mustangs were unable to break through a solid Texarkana defense led by goalkeeper Layla Anaya, who made four saves.
The Lady Mustangs will close out their four-game home stand Saturday, October 25th ,for a senior day kickoff scheduled for 1 p.m. (MT).
