HOBBS, N.M. -- The Southwest Mustangs put on a clinic Tuesday night, cruising to a 119-60 win over Navajo Technical University at the Student Life Center. With a relentless pace and deep bench production, Southwest set their record 1-0 on the season in emphatic fashion.
The Mustangs shot a scorching 64.2% from the field, including 73% in the second half, and out-rebounded the Skyhawks 42-10. Eleven different players scored for Southwest, with
Luke Cornette leading the way with 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting, including five three-pointers.
Kevin Boone added 18 points and four rebounds, while
Grant Hickey contributed 13 points, six rebounds and three assists. Southwest's bench was electric, pouring in 76 points, led by
Noah Washington with 13 points and
Donovan Holcombe with 10.
The Mustangs held Navajo Tech to just 40.7% shooting and forced six turnovers, converting them into quick transition buckets. Southwest's defensive pressure and rebounding advantage allowed them to control the tempo from start to finish.
Southwest will look to carry this momentum into its next contest against Navajo Tech again on Thursday. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
