HOBBS, N.M. -- The Southwest men's basketball team delivered a statement win on Thursday night, overpowering Navajo Technical University 110-75 to remain undefeated at 3-0 on the season.
The Mustangs exploded out of the gate with a 63-point first half, building a commanding 40-point lead by halftime. Their relentless offensive pace and stifling defense overwhelmed the Skyhawks, who struggled to keep up despite a strong second-half shooting performance.
Southwest shot a blistering 63.1% from the field and 40% from beyond the arc, connecting on 16 three-pointers. The Mustangs also went a perfect 12-for-12 from the free-throw line and racked up 66 points off the bench.
Isaac Warhurst and
Noah Washington led the scoring charge with 14 points apiece, combining for seven three-pointers.
Jalen Williams added 12 points in just four minutes of action, going a perfect 4-for-4 from the field and 3-for-3 from the line.
Defensively, Southwest forced five turnovers and turned them into 15 points. The Mustangs also dominated second-chance opportunities, outscoring Navajo Tech 18-9 in that category.
Despite a valiant second-half effort from the Skyhawks, who shot 69% from the field after halftime, the early deficit proved too much to overcome.
Southwest's largest lead of the night ballooned to 44 points midway through the second half, and the Mustangs never trailed in the contest.
The Mustangs will look to carry this momentum into their next matchup as they continue to build on their undefeated start.
