GOODWELL, Okla. -- The Southwest Mustangs fall 96–64 to the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (USAO) at Anchor D Arena during the No Man's Land Classic. Despite a strong opening quarter, Southwest couldn't keep pace with the undefeated Drovers, who used a dominant second half to pull away.
Southwest (3–1) led 23–22 after the first quarter, fueled by a hot shooting start from senior guard Briana Montoya, who finished with a team-high 20 points, including six three-pointers. Sophomore Seniya Wilson added 13 points and 5 assists, while Karinna Ortiz contributed 15 points and 4 assists.
The Mustangs shot 38.7% from three-point range and 85.7% from the free-throw line, but struggled with turnovers and rebounding. USAO capitalized on 26 Southwest turnovers, converting them into 36 points, and outrebounded the Mustangs 51–29.
Southwest was outscored 59–29 in the second half, including a fourth quarter where the Mustangs managed just 9 points. USAO's bench proved decisive, contributing 37 points to the effort.
Southwest returns to action on November 14 at Nelson University, looking to bounce back and continue its strong start to the season.
