SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The University of the Southwest men's basketball team dropped a 77–59 decision to Our Lady of the Lake University on Thursday night at Mabee Gymnasium.
Southwest (3-5, 0-2) battled throughout but never led, as OLLU jumped out to an early advantage and maintained control behind a strong first half. The Mustangs trailed 39–28 at the break and were unable to overcome the Saints' balanced scoring attack in the second half.
Kevin Boone led Southwest with 17 points and nine rebounds, connecting on 6-of-11 shots and two three-pointers. EJay Scroggins added 11 points, five rebounds, and three assists off the bench, while Rylan Laboca chipped in nine points on perfect shooting. Despite these efforts, Southwest shot 34.5 percent from the field and struggled at the free-throw line, converting just 13-of-30 attempts (43.3%).
OLLU (3-3, 1-0) countered with 41 bench points and dominated the paint, outscoring Southwest 40–26 inside. The Saints also held a 44–40 edge on the boards and capitalized on 17 Mustang turnovers for 17 points.
Southwest will look to regroup when it travels to Texas A&M San Antonio on Saturday, with tip-off set for 2 p.m. MT.
