SAN ANTONIO, TX — The University of the Southwest Mustangs hit the road Saturday to face the Texas A&M–San Antonio Jaguars inside the Jaguar Den. Despite a gritty effort, the Mustangs came up short, but not without leaving everything on the floor.
From the opening tip, Southwest showed toughness on both ends, battling inside and contesting every possession. The Jaguars, however, used their home-court energy and physicality to control the glass and assert themselves in the paint. Over the course of the night, TAMUSA's effort on the boards and inside presence wore on the Mustangs' defense down the stretch.
Although individual numbers couldn't be confirmed after the game, the Mustang squad demonstrated resilience, pushing tempo, fighting for second-chance rebounds and contesting perimeter looks. Their energy never wavered, even as the Jaguars built a lead in the second half.
For Southwest, this game served as a benchmark, a test of composure on the road for conference play. The lessons learned, especially in rebounding, shot selection, and defensive discipline, will only strengthen them moving forward.
The Mustangs return home to regroup, refocus and build toward their next challenge as the season progresses.
