PINEVILLE, La. — The University of the Southwest women's basketball team dropped a conference road contest Saturday afternoon, falling 77–47 to Louisiana Christian inside H.O. West Fieldhouse.

The Mustangs struggled to find an offensive rhythm in the opening half, shooting 21.4% and 23.8% in the first two quarters as LCU built an early advantage. Despite the tough start, Southwest responded with its strongest offensive period coming out of halftime, shooting 46.7% in the third quarter and posting 20 points.

Seniya Wilson led the Mustangs with 10 points, adding four assists, three steals, and four rebounds in an all‑around performance. Karinna Ortiz followed with 7 points, five assists, and three steals, while Alliah Scallion and Macie Werdel each chipped in 8 and 7 points, respectively. Werdel also grabbed a team‑high 7 rebounds.

Southwest dominated the glass on multiple possessions, pulling down 40 rebounds, including 14 offensive boards to produce 11 second‑chance points. The Mustangs also turned strong defensive moments into opportunities, forcing 15 LCU turnovers and turning them into 11 points off the bench and 7 points off turnovers.

A late surge from Saleen Longoria, who knocked down three three‑pointers to finish with 9 points, added a spark in the second half, but the early deficit proved too large to overcome.

Louisiana Christian countered with a balanced attack, shooting 39.4% from the field and 38.1% from beyond the arc. LCU controlled points in the paint (30–12) and converted Mustang turnovers into 24 points.

With the loss, Southwest moves to 6–12 overall and 2–10 in conference play.

The Mustangs return to action next week as they look to bounce back on their home court.
