STAFFORD, Texas — The University of the Southwest fell 96–60 on the road Saturday afternoon against North American University, unable to overcome a slow start despite a much-improved second‑half performance. The Mustangs opened the game in a scoring drought while North American surged ahead early, building a 46–20 lead by halftime.
Freshman forward Connor Moody led Southwest with 14 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and four steals, providing a steady presence on both ends. Rylan Laboca delivered one of the team's strongest efforts, posting a 10‑point, 10‑rebound double‑double off the bench in 22 minutes. Isaac Warhurst added a late scoring burst with 11 points, all in the second half, on a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc.
Turnovers proved to be Southwest's biggest challenge, as the team committed 25 giveaways that North American converted into 32 points. Despite the setback, the Mustangs battled on the glass, outrebounding their first‑half total by seven after the break and finishing with 38 boards, including Laboca's 10 and Moody's eight. Kevin Boone added six rebounds to go with five points.
Southwest shot just 26.9% from the field in the first half but responded with 45.2% shooting in the second, with the bench contributing 29 of the team's 60 points. The late‑game surge highlighted the group's depth and resilience, even as the early deficit proved too steep to erase.
Southwest returns home Monday for its rescheduled match against Our Lady of the Lake.
