Southwest Concludes Season at Home Against LSU Alexandria

HOBBS, N.M. — The University of the Southwest men's basketball program wrapped up its 2025–26 season Saturday evening inside the Maddox Student Life Center, falling 86–64 to a strong LSU Alexandria squad.

Southwest (5–23, 2–20 RRAC) opened the night with energy, scoring the first basket of the game on a dunk by EJay Scroggins off a steal from Kevin Boone. The Mustangs traded baskets with the Generals through the opening minutes, highlighted by early threes from Jalen Williams and the high‑effort play of Jayvian Lawson on the boards. But LSUA's efficiency from the perimeter allowed the visitors to pull ahead behind a 46‑31 halftime advantage.

Boone fueled Southwest offensively throughout the first half, totaling 7 points and 5 rebounds before the break, while the Mustangs shot an impressive 53.8% from the field in the opening period. Freshman guard Luke Cornette also provided a lift by knocking down a first‑half three off the bench.

Southwest continued to battle in the second half, with Boone asserting himself in the paint to finish with a team‑high 20 points and 10 rebounds, recording a full‑effort double‑double. Scroggins added 12 points, 11 assists, and 3 steals. Williams contributed 12 points, including a pair of threes, while Lawson tallied 7 rebounds and worked relentlessly inside.

Cornette delivered a strong second‑half stretch as well, knocking down multiple threes and finishing with 9 points on 3–4 shooting. As a team, Southwest totaled 33 rebounds, finishing even with LSUA on the glass.

Despite the final score, the Mustangs showed resiliency throughout the night, generating 14 second‑chance points and staying aggressive until the final whistle. LSUA's depth proved decisive down the stretch, as the Generals received 41 points from their bench to secure the win.

The game marked the final outing of the season for Southwest, capping a year of development, emerging young talent, and continued growth within the program.
