Lady Mustangs Wrap Up Regular Season at Texas A&M–Texarkana

TEXARKANA, Texas — The University of the Southwest Lady Mustangs closed the 2026 regular season with a three‑game road series at Texas A&M–Texarkana, competing in two games Wednesday before concluding the series Thursday morning at Bramlett Field.

Game 1: Texas A&M-Texarkana 1, Southwest 0
Southwest opened the series in a tightly contested pitcher's duel, as Cali Saldana turned in a strong performance in the circle, limiting the Eagles to one run on five hits across six innings.

Offensively, the Lady Mustangs generated opportunities throughout the game, recording hits from Kamryn Cantu, Elexes Martinez, and Danali Garces, but were unable to break through against Texas A&M–Texarkana pitching. A sixth‑inning RBI double proved to be the lone scoring play as Southwest fell 1–0.

Game 2: Texas A&M-Texarkana 9, Southwest 1
In the second game of the doubleheader, Southwest worked out of early bases‑loaded trouble before getting on the board in the third inning. Layla Stouder drove in the Lady Mustangs' run with an RBI single to right field, capping a frame that featured four Southwest hits.

The Lady Mustangs finished with six hits in the contest, including a pair from Hannah Campos, while Elexes Martinez reached base twice. Texas A&M–Texarkana capitalized on a big second inning and added late insurance to secure the win.

Game 3: Texas A&M-Texarkana 11, Southwest 3
Southwest wrapped up the regular season Thursday morning, responding after an early deficit with production in the second and third innings. Elexes Martinez delivered a standout performance at the plate, going 2‑for‑2 with two RBIs, including a two‑run single that brought the Lady Mustangs within three runs.

Danali Garces added two hits, while Kamryn Cantu and Layla Stouder both crossed the plate as Southwest continued to battle through all five innings. Texas A&M–Texarkana used timely extra‑base hits and aggressive baserunning to pull away late.

Head Coach Chris Petroski
"We knew this was going to be a tough series heading into it. TAMUT is a sounds all-around team and we would have to be flawless. We looked great in the circle in game one when Cali kept hitters off balance until we got caught on our heals when they laid down a bunt in the 6th. A hit later and 1-0 game going into the 7th. We didn't have much offense at all with only three hits which is tough to score when we don't have runners on.

In games two and three we proved that we can hit and get on base, but could not get those clutch hits when needed in scoring position. We had too many walks and hit by pitches versus their strong hitting offense that cause the large margin in the score."

The final series served as a testament to the Lady Mustangs' competitiveness and resilience throughout the 2026 campaign. Southwest received key contributions from underclassmen while gaining valuable experience against top conference competition.
