PINEVILLE, LA. -- The University of the Southwest women's soccer team faced a challenging road swing in Louisiana this week, during the first two Red River Athletic Conference games of the season. The Mustangs opened the trip Thursday against Louisiana Christian before wrapping up the weekend Saturday against LSU Alexandria. Despite the difficult results, Southwest continued to compete and gain valuable experience against conference contenders.
Thursday: Louisiana Christian 8, Southwest 0
Southwest opened conference play Thursday night in Pineville, Louisiana, against Louisiana Christian. The Wildcats found their rhythm early, scoring five first-half goals on their way to an 8-0 victory.
The Mustangs generated eight shots on the evening and began creating more opportunities as the match progressed. Kaylynn Miller led the attack with five shots, including two on goal, while Rozlynn Ramsey added a shot on target. Southwest nearly broke through in the second half when Brooke Davis struck the post during a strong offensive stretch.
In goal, Elena Moya made one save in the first half before Genesis Davila entered after halftime and recorded another save. The Mustangs showed resilience throughout the final 45 minutes, producing six of their eight shots in the second half and earning two of their three corner kicks after the break.
Saturday: LSU Alexandria 9, Southwest 0
The Mustangs continued their road trip Saturday against defending conference power LSU Alexandria. Southwest battled throughout the match but fell 9-0 at the Generals Soccer Pitch.
The Generals applied pressure from the opening whistle, but Southwest goalkeeper Elena Moya delivered a strong individual performance early. Moya recorded nine saves during the match, including several key stops in the opening half that kept the Mustangs within reach before LSU Alexandria's attack gained momentum.
Offensively, Southwest registered four shots, with Yanelli Maddaford leading the way by placing two shots on target. Eliza Lopez also recorded a shot on goal, while the Mustangs continued to search for scoring opportunities against one of the conference's strongest defensive units.
Following a red card issued to Moya late in the match, Genesis Davila stepped into goal for the final minutes to help the Mustangs finish the contest.
