HOBBS, N.M. -- The University of the Southwest women's soccer team continued its Oklahoma road swing this week, facing two challenging opponents in Mid-America Christian on Wednesday and Oklahoma City on Friday. Despite the final scores, the Mustangs showed positive moments early in both contests while gaining valuable experience against two nationally competitive programs.
Wednesday: Southwest 1, Mid-America Christian 10
Southwest got off to an ideal start against Mid-America Christian, striking first just over four minutes into the match. Yanelli Maddaford found the back of the net off an assist from Roxana Bustamante, giving the Lady Mustangs a 1-0 advantage and marking Maddaford's first goal of the season.
The home side responded with two first-half goals to take a 2-1 lead into halftime, but Southwest remained competitive throughout much of the opening 45 minutes. Goalkeeper Elena Moya kept the Eagles within striking distance with several key saves, recording 12 stops on the afternoon.
Mid-America Christian pulled away in the second half, scoring eight goals after the break. Southwest generated opportunities offensively, finishing with 14 shots and six shots on goal. Kaylynn Miller led the attack with five shots, while Bustamante added five attempts and the game's lone assist for the Mustangs.
Friday: Southwest 0, Oklahoma City 9
Two days later, Southwest faced another tough test against undefeated Oklahoma City. The Mustangs battled through a scoreless opening 24 minutes before the Stars broke through and carried a 3-0 lead into halftime.
Defensively, Southwest was led by goalkeeper Genesis Davila, who turned away four shots while playing all 90 minutes. The Mustangs also limited several Oklahoma City chances early, keeping the match within reach through much of the first half.
Southwest recorded three shots in the contest, including attempts from Kaylynn Miller, Brooke Davis, and Rozlynn Ramsey. The Mustangs continued to compete throughout the match, with several players seeing valuable minutes as the coaching staff utilized its depth.

Southwest will look to build on the experience gained during a demanding road stretch and continue developing as conference play approaches. The Mustangs have shown flashes offensively, highlighted by Maddaford's early goal against Mid-America Christian, and will aim to turn those opportunities into results in the weeks ahead.
