Cory Hitchcock

Cory Hitchcock was named the sixth Head Coach of the University of the Southwest Men’s Basketball program in April of 2019.
 
Hitchcock led the Mustangs to a breakout year in 2019-20 as USW had an 11-game improvement and finished 3rd in the Red River Athletic Conference, which was the highest conference finish in school history.
 
The Mustangs finished the season with a 16-13 overall record and 11-7 in RRAC play, exceeding both win totals from the previous season. The 16 wins were the most since the 2014-15 season and the second most wins in a season overall. They also finished the season above .500 for the first time since the 2014-15 season. The Mustangs qualified for the conference tournament as the No. 3 seed which was their highest seed in program history and the first time back to the tournament since 2017-18.
 
Hitchcocks’ Mustangs had a great showing with individual honors during the 2019-20 season. Joshua Harris was named a NAIA All-American Honorable Mention while also being named to the RRAC All-Conference First Team; while Akeem Black was named to the Second Team, Derrick Hall was named as an Honorable Mention and Cortez Williams was selected to the All-Champions of Character Team.
 
In his first year, Hitchcock was also named the RRAC Coach of the Year becoming the first Men’s Basketball Coach in school history to receive the award.  
 
Off the court, in his first season at USW, the Men’s program achieved a team GPA of 3.26 in 2019-20 season.
 
During the 2018-19 season, Hitchcock served as the Head Coach for the Women’s Basketball program leading them to an 8-17 record, which was the highest win total since the 2015-16 season when the Lady Mustangs finished 8-19. 

Hitchcock came to the University of the Southwest in August of 2018 after spending eight years as the Head Coach of the Boys’ Basketball program at Glenwood Springs (Colo.) High School.  During his time in Glenwood Springs, he guided the Demons to 114 wins, four Western Slope League Championships and eight state tournament appearances.  Hitchcock was named the league’s Coach of the Year in 2015, 2017 and 2018.  During that stretch his team finished with a 45-9 league record.
 
Prior to coaching at Glenwood Springs, Hitchcock was an assistant coach at Montrose (Colo.) High School during the 2009-10 season.  There he helped the Indians to a Sweet 16 appearance and a 19-6 overall record.
 
Hitchcock spent the 2007-09 season as an assistant coach for the women’s basketball program at Grand Canyon (Ariz.) University.  He helped guide the team to two PacWest championships and an appearance in the NCAA Division II National Tournament.
 
Hitchcock has also spent time coaching at Timberline (Wash.) High School, his alma mater River Ridge (Wash.) High School and has participated in several youth basketball clinics and camps over his 18 years of coaching.
 
Hitchcock graduated from Grand Canyon University in 2006 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications with a concentration in Public Relations.  He earned his Master’s Degree in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia University Irvine in 2017.
 
He and his wife, Pam, reside in Hobbs with their son Kellen (8) and their daughter Nora (4).
