Cassandra "Cass" Smith enters the 2022-2023 year in her second season as the Head Coach of the Lady Mustang's Volleyball Program. She will also be entering her first season as an assistant coach for women's basketball. Smith is an alumni of USW Volleyball and Women's Basketball playing from 2013-2016. Smith graduated in 2017 with a Bachelor's in Biology. During her time at USW, Smith earned both athletic and academic honors. In 2013 she was named to the RRAC Honorable Mention Team. In 2015 she earned 2nd Team All-Conference and Champions of Character honors as well as All-Conference Academic team.
During the 2020-2021 season she was an Assistant Coach for the volleyball team. During that season, the Lady Mustangs finished second in the Red River Athletic Conference during the regular season and finished as the runner-up in the RRACconference tournament. In her lone season as an assistant coach, she was named the Assistant Coach of the Year in the South-Central Region by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.
Smith graduated with her Master's degree in Exercise Science in 2020. She is an El Paso, TX native and graduated from Franklin High School. At Franklin HS, Smith earned All-District and All-City accolades in both volleyball and basketball.
