MUSKOGEE, Okla. – The University of the Southwest women's soccer team started its 2017 campaign with an offensive outburst and sprinted past Bacone College 13-0 Thursday evening.
Junior
Barbara de Souza scored the match's first goal at the 12:30 mark and moments later freshman
Savannah Villegas netted her first-career goal and the Lady Mustangs went into halftime with a 2-0 advantage.
USW put the pressure on in the second half and scored 11 goals to complete the rout.
"I am very pleased with our girls. We struggled in the first half to find the back of the net, but we settled down and played our brand of soccer and we found our way," USW head women's soccer coach
Joshua Smith said following the match. "Our girls worked hard and adapted well to the new things we were looking to do. Getting off to a winning start is always a good way to start the season."
Villegas, who scored the final goal of the first half, started the scoring in the 40
th minute. Just five minutes later freshman
Desiree Morgas scored her first career goal, a chip over the back line. At 33:24 senior
Nicole Daigle found the back of the net and at 26:11 Morgas netted her second goal of the game, with the assist coming from junior
Jenny Loredo.

Lauren Zarate scored her first career goal and moments later freshman
Adriana Guzman scored the first goal of her career.
To cap off the first game of her career, Morgas scored at 19:46 to complete the hat trick.
"I think we played well for it bring our first match of the season and were able to get the win." said Morgas. "Working hard during preseason is paying off and our coaching staff is pushing us to be better every day. For this being my first match as a freshman, I was able to adjust to the speed of play. I was able to find the opportunities to put the ball in the back of the net due to my teammates."
As a team the Lady Mustangs (1-0) outshot Warriors 50 to 3. Morgas connected on a game-high 10 shots, while Zarate connected on six shots. Sophomore
Naomi Morales scored two goals on four shots attempts.
USW returns to the pitch Saturday at Randall for an 11 a.m. MST start.
