HOBBS, N.M. – Senior
Leroy Cox came off the bench and scored a game-high 26 points, but Wiley upended University of the Southwest 97-85 Thursday evening in Red River Athletic Conference action.
The Wildcats (8-7, 2-4 RRAC) shot 64 percent (22-for-34) from the field and went into halftime with a 54-37 advantage.
Wiley led by as much as 19 points in the second half, but USW (5-12, 2-5 RRAC) battled back and a Cox three-pointer with 18 seconds remaining in the second half brought the Mustangs to within eight at 93-85.
Seniors
David Blaylock and
Marcelious Green each scored 14 points. Fellow senior
Jim Coleman finished with 12 points and was a perfect 4-for-4 at the charity stripe.
As a squad USW shot 48 percent (32-for-66) from the floor, including a sterling 52 percent (19-for-36) in the second half.
The Mustangs return to the court Saturday and play host to Jarvis Christian at 7:30 p.m. at the Maddox Student Life Center.
