Desiree Garza scored a team-high 14 points on 5-for-8 shooting from the field, but Jarvis Christian defeated University of the Southwest women's basketball 67-56 Saturday evening in Red River Athletic Conference action.
The first quarter was evenly contested with the Bulldogs (4-21, 2-14 RRAC) up 14-13 after the opening 10 minutes.
Just when USW (4-21, 3-14 RRAC) look primed to make a run, JCC outscored the Mustangs 22-12 in the second quarter and the Blue and Red went into halftime trailing 35-26.
USW fought back in the fourth quarter and junior
Catarina Garcia hit a three-pointer to bring the Mustangs with five at 46-41.
As a team, the Mustangs shot 35 percent (21-for-60) from the field, while the Bulldogs converted 46 percent (26-for-56) of their shots.
Garcia, along with sophomore
Naomi Solsberry each scored eight points. Freshman
Harlei Hacessa added six points and hauled in six rebounds.
USW returns to action next week at Langston and Paul Quinn.
