HOUSTON, Texas – University of the Southwest men's basketball shot a sizzling 55 percent from the floor and the Mustangs dispatched St. Thomas – Houston 102-84 Saturday evening in Red River Athletic Conference.
USW (10-14, 6-7 RRAC) dominated from the opening tip to the final whistle. The Mustangs eventually led by 30 points with eight minutes remaining in the second half.
Seniors
Marcelious Green and
Leroy Cox each scored a game-high 25 points. Green was an efficient 9-for-14 from the field, also went 6-for-8 from the free throw line. Cox, who came off the bench and played the role of the sixth man, was also 9-for-14 from the field, including going 5-for-8 from beyond the arc.
Senior
Jim Coleman helped out with 21 points on 8-for-12 shooting from the field. Coleman also went 3-for-5 from three-point range and 2-for-2 at the charity stripe.
Senior
David Blaylock scored 17 points and handed out a game-high nine assists. Blaylock also grabbed seven rebounds.
As a team, the Mustangs went 13-for-24 from three-point range. USW also dominated in front of the basket and out-rebounded the Celts (11-11, 4-9 RRAC) 37-28 on the defensive boards.
USW returns to the hardwood Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the Maddox Student Life Center. The Mustangs host Huston-Tillotson.
