Hobbs, NM - After a tough week last week for the Mustangs that included two road games against NCAA Division 2 opponents, the Mustangs returned home to face another Division 2 opponent in New Mexico Highlands University. The Mustangs looked to bounce back from their previous losses and end the losing skid against an undefeated Highlands basketball team.

The first half of the game was pretty back and forth with the Mustangs holding a 40-36 lead at the end of the first half.

The second half was no different with the Mustangs staying constant and playing their game and eventually coming out on top 90-85! This was a well needed win for the Mustangs against a quality opponent.

Head Coach, Cory Hitchcock has this to say following his teams win, “These guys showed a lot of fight and grit tonight. The coaching staff challenged the guys to stick to the game plan and communicate with each other and they responded. They did all the little things it took to win the game. Beating a team of this caliber is huge for us. It shows the guys we can compete with anybody if we show up play hard and play together. We will enjoy this win tonight but tomorrow we will turn our focus towards Wayland Baptist. Another tough opponent who is ranked in the top 10.”

The Mustangs are back on the road on Tuesday as they travel to #3 Wayland Baptist. Tip off is set for 6 PM Mountain Time.
