MBB: Mustangs unable to keep up with #5 LSU-Shreveport

HOBBS, NM---The Mustangs ran into a juggernaut on Thursday evening as the #5 LSU-Shreveport Pilots came to town. USW was defeated 91-60 by the Pilots. The loss brings the Mustangs record to 10-8 overall and 5-3 in conference play, still giving themselves a tournament berth.

"We lost to a great basketball team. They're #5 for a reason and they outworked us. They were flying around, active and crashing the glass hard. I thought we played timid and weren't ready for the moment. Gotta get back to the drawing board and get the guys ready for Saturday." said Head Coach Cory Hitchcock

Despite the tough result tonight, Joshua Harris had a great offensive night as he scored 21 points on 10-16 shots. The senior had 3 rebounds, 1 block and 1 steal. Akeem Black was the only other Mustang in double-figures with 11 points including three 3-pointers. The Mustangs shot 41.7% from the field and 35% from the 3-PT line.

The Mustangs host #11 LSU-Alexandria on Saturday at 4:00 PM MST. Coach Hitchcock knows that LSU-A is a talented squad and will be another tough challenge for his players. "They're big and can do everything. I think they're a great team overall. They have great team talent and play well together. We have to lock in defensively and box out. Both these LSU teams score a lot of points, so we have to get some stops to give ourselves a chance." said Hitchcock on Saturday's matchup.
