HOBBS, NM--The USW Women's Basketball program hosted their final home game of the 2019-2020 season on Saturday afternoon as they welcomed the Wiley Wildcats to town. The Lady Mustangs honored two of their seniors post game with a Senior Day ceremony. Mykal Thomas and Naomi Solsberry were the two seniors honored by USW as both girls were 4-year letterman for the program. 

"We celebrated two seniors today. Naomi Solsberry and Mykal Thomas have done great things while being here at USW" said Head Coach Devonte Brewer. "Naomi's leadership was huge for our team this season and Mykal is having her best statistical season. Mykal started off hot today in the 1st quarter and the girls kept feeding her the ball. These two laid the foundation for the future of our program and for that and many more reason, I love and appreciate these two!"

USW would come out on the losing end of the contest as they fell 74-55. The Lady Mustangs offense went cold in the 2nd and 3rd quarters as they scored only 4 points in the 2nd and 10 in the 3rd quarter of the game. Thomas led the way for the Mustangs in scoring with 22 points on 7-18 shooting from the field. The Senior from San Diego, CA was 6-6 from the FT line and grabbed 5 rebounds in 32 minutes of play. Harlei Haceesa and Rhinna Bortoli were the other ladies in double-figures as the rest of the team was held relatively quiet on the offensive side of things. 

MYKAL THOMAS
Mykal Thomas is a 5'10" forward from San Diego, CA. Thomas is majoring in Global Business and the child of Najah Khalid and Marcell Artis. She has 3 siblings: Devin, Kymia and Chemar. Mykal attended Otay Ranch High School in Chula Vista, CA. To date, Thomas has appeared in 96 games for USW and has totaled 717 points to this point. She has played in 22+ games pers season in all four years here at USW and is having a career year in her final year with the program. This season she is averaging 10.1 points per game, 3.9 rebounds per game, 1.5 blocks per game and shooting 85% from the FT line. 

"Myk does things the right way and puts everyone before herself. She's one of the most talented players we've ever seen here and makes things look effortless. She likes to fly under the radar and even with that, she will be one of the most accomplished players in USW history." said Coach Brewer on his senior forward. 

NAOMI SOLSBERRY
Naomi Solsberry is a 5'6" guard from San Antonio, TX. She is the child of Wanda & Willie Solsberry. She is majoring in Psychology with a Minor in Criminal Justice. Solsberry attended Bryon P. Steele HS in Cibolo, TX and has 2 siblings: Candace & De'neen. She was awarded with Newcomer of the Year for the 2016-2017 season. Over her 4 year career at USW, Naomi has played in 69 games and scored 375 points. She has grabbed 219 rebounds, dished out 61 steals  and has 38 career steals. Her best season was in 2018-2019 as she averaged 6.5 points per game and averaged 3.5 rebounds and 1 assist per game. Solsberry's season this year was cut short due to an opportunity to join the Air Force this past December after she graduated with her Bachelors degree. 

"Naomi graduated in December and was offered a job with the Air Force in San Antonio. They weren't going to hold the position until the end of the season, she she decided to take the job and start her career. I couldn't be more proud of her!" said Head Coach Devonte Brewer..
