DALLAS, TX---Behind
Joshua Harris's 23 points and
Akeem Black's 18 points, the Mustangs took down the Paul Quinn College Tigers on Saturday afternoon 64-56. The win brings the Mustangs record to 12-10 overall and 7-5 in RRAC play. They currently sit in 3rd place in the standings with 6 games left on their schedule.
"That was a fun game!" said Head Coach
Cory Hitchcock. "It was back and forth the entire night. We didn't take care of the ball like we usually do but we overcame some sloppy stretches when it mattered. Our defense was great. We held them 18 points under their average which is big because we weren't really doing much offensively. Our defense and free throws won this game for us and the guys understand that. Now it's time to get back to work and focus on Texarkana. They are playing at a very high level right now and it will be a tough game. This will be our last two home games of the year so I'm hoping we will have a great crowd and make it a tough environment for the visiting teams."
Joshua Harris once again led the team in scoring with 23 points in 33 minutes of play. The senior was 8-14 from the field and a perfect 7-7 from the free throw line. Harris also grabbed 4 rebounds and had 2 assists. Fellow senior
Akeem Black was second in scoring once again with 18 points on 8-13 shooting. Black had 6 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 steals.
Thurbil Bile contributed 8 points, 8 rebounds and 1 assist in the win. Cortez Williams provided solid minutes off the bench as he scored 6 points, had 6 rebounds and 3 assists.
The Mustangs host their final 2 home games of the year this week as they take on Texarkana on Thursday evening at 7:30 PM MST. Then they will host Wiley College on Saturday and hold their Senior Day festivities. USW will be honoring 3 seniors:
Joshua Harris,
Akeem Black and
Jaylen Taulton.
